The International Symposium on Ancient Greek Drama started as an activity of the Committee of Cultural Identity and Development of the international Theatre Institute and is being organized on a regular basis every other year by the Cyprus Centre of the ITI and the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The topic of the fourteenth edition of the Symposium is “The lament in ancient Greek drama”. The Symposium seeks to explore the structure, themes, expressive conventions and the aspects of lament in ancient Greek drama, both in the dramatic texts and in their scenic representations in antiquity and in modern times.

Fourteen academics and theatre practitioners of international standing will present a wide range of theoretical approaches, including the dramaturgical analysis, theatre semiotics, anthropology, reception studies and their own experience in staging ancient Greek drama today.
